EvidenceB, the EdTech start-up that offers the first adaptive learning tool based on cognitive sciences reinforced by artificial intelligence (AI) to combat school dropout, announces that it has completed a fundraising of 4 million euros. This was driven and mainly funded by Educapital, the leading European fund dedicated to the education sector, alongside Zanichelli Venture. Finorpa and IRD, its two historical investors, also participated in this new round. EvidenceB also announced that it had won a major contract with the Ministry of National Education to deploy its solution for remediation in French and mathematics for all new high school students in France.

EvidenceB: cognitive sciences and AI to address the societal challenge of school dropout

Created in 2017, EvidenceB is a French EdTech that develops and deploys adaptive learning modules focused on fundamental knowledge, aimed at primary and secondary school students and their teachers. Unique in the world, these Adaptive Learning solutions from EvidenceB help combat school dropout and advance each student’s learning by combining:

Cognitive science (to understand how students’ brains learn, the difficulties they encounter and the best approach to address them)
Artificial Intelligence (to personalize learning paths and allow teachers to identify each student’s difficulties and progress).
Digital learning interfaces (to stimulate students’ desire to learn and motivation).

A technology recognized in France and around the world

Since its creation, the start-up has been awarded 16 times in national and international competitions, a real record in the education sector, among the most recent Tech4Good (France), Elite 200 of the ASU-GSV Cup (USA), BETT Award – Company of the Year and EdTechX Impact Award (UK and World).

EvidenceB has enjoyed remarkable success with the biggest players in education. In France, the Ministry of National Education has selected its Adaptiv’Math solution to be deployed in all primary schools in France. Adaptiv’Langue has been chosen for the development of intuitive mastery of the French language in high schools in several regions of France. Finally, Adaptiv’Seconde, its solution dedicated to learning French and mathematics for all new high school students has also just been selected by the Ministry of National Education. EvidenceB has also developed modules with French publishers, including Hatier, Bordas, Nathan, etc.

EvidenceB’s adaptive learning solutions have also convinced many key players internationally. The startup is currently working with ministries of education in Asia, the Middle East and the Maghreb, as well as with leading publishers such as Marshall Cavendish, the Singapore leader in mathematics education, and Pearson Italia for second languages. It also works with Sanoma Italia, the Italian branch of the world’s largest media group in the field of education, alongside which it offers a platform for learning French and mathematics.

“To date, EvidenceB generates nearly 20% of its turnover internationally.” says Catherine de Vulpillières.

A fundraising round to accelerate internationally

To continue this growth trajectory, EvidenceB has just completed a €4 million fundraising round, notably from Educapital, the leading European fund dedicated to the Edtech sector.

Thanks to this transaction, EvidenceB will be able to accelerate its development by integrating new skills and expertise, particularly within its R&D and marketing/sales teams, by increasing its workforce from 30 to 45 people in 18 months. This new financing should also allow the start-up to continue its international expansion.

Commenting on this transaction, Thierry de Vulpillières, CEO of EvidenceB, said: “We are delighted to welcome Educapital, the leading European EdTech fund, alongside our historical funds. We share Educapital’s ambition: to bring the best of digital technology with evidence-based adaptive learning to help all students succeed. We thank them for their trust in this new stage of our history, marked by the desire to accelerate internationally.

We strongly believe in the relevance and future of adaptive learning and are confident to support EvidenceB to make their technology accessible to all. Students and teachers alike deserve to have high-quality, innovative technologies at their fingertips, such as the one offered by EvidenceB, one of the most important contributions to education in recent years. Their impact on reducing school dropout rates, thanks to personalized and tailor-made support, is of public utility.” Marie-Christine Levet, CEO of Educapital.

About EvidenceB

Co-founded in 2017 by Thierry de Vulpillières, Catherine de Vulpillières and Didier Plasse, joined by Philippe Mero in 2021, EvidenceB develops next-generation digital adaptive learning modules based on AI systems. The modules are based on data and results from research in cognitive science (how students learn), Artificial Intelligence (how to personalize learning paths) and digital learning interfaces (how to stimulate the desire to learn).

EvidenceB was born from the observation that recent discoveries in the field of research make it possible to support teachers’ pedagogical choices, by facilitating the identification of each student’s difficulties. EvidenceB works with a B2B2C model, in partnership with the various players in the education sector in France and internationally, Ministries, institutions and school publishers. The start-up was born in Willa, which supports women entrepreneurs, and EDUCATE in London, the largest Edtech start-up accelerator in Europe. EvidenceB was a winner in 2022 of the EdTechX ESG & Impact Award in London, finalist at the BETT Awards 2022 (the world’s leading EdTech trade show) in London, elected among the Elite 200 of the GSV Cup 2022 in San Diego (California), Education winner at the Tech4Good Awards (BFM) in 2021, finalist of the international SheLovesTech competition in Beijing and winner of Amplify / Girls in Tech (Singapore). https://evidenceb.fr/
